AI-generated payment requests and voice-cloned authorisation calls targeting small business have increased dramatically across Australia. There's nothing new about scam emails and fake payment requests. We've all received them, but they are now more sophisticated than ever before.
Tips to minimise the risk: If in doubt, google search the business, call them back on a verified direct phone line, never click suspicious email links, hang up on phantom (silent) calls immediately to avoid being listed as a potential target and always check suspicious URL or email addresses before responding to them.

The RBA has banned credit card surcharges starting 1st October. This restriction on merchant card surcharging will actively impact retail, trade, and commercial margins. The ACCC has allowed businesses affected by the surcharge ban to offer their customers a discount for payments in cash, which could see a shift back to cash payments for many small businesses. Alternative payment methods like automated PayID and EFT may also be a way forward for some businesses
